Who I am
Roxana Gheorghe
I am a visual artist based in New York City, using abstract shapes and bold colors to inspire thought and reflection.
My work invites you to explore new ideas and perspectives, using color and composition to encourage reflection.
Based in New York, I am a visual artist exploring the crossroads of architecture, geometry, and music through digital abstraction. Influenced by the Bauhaus and Constructivism, I explore themes of light, human experience, and identity.
The 2020 pandemic became a turning point, prompting me to confront the tension between my Romanian heritage and American identity. Through my series Broken, fragmented geometric forms reveal how migration enriches rather than fractures identity, transforming cultural collision into creative synthesis. My work has been showcased at the Florence Biennale and the Chianciano Biennale, with one piece in the permanent collection of the Museo d'Arte Chianciano Terme.
I hold a mechanical engineering degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest and an MBA from Baruch College, and I took art classes in New York. My engineering background helps structure my work, while my passion for art serves as a form of personal expression.
Bio
Artist Statement
My abstract work integrates art, geometry, and architecture to create visual narratives that transcend cultural boundaries and explore identity. Through digital collage in Photoshop, I deconstruct and layer architectural photographs with geometric forms to examine cultural intersections and hybrid identity.
My process starts with photographing urban structures, then digitally deconstructing and reassembling them in Photoshop using Bauhaus-inspired geometric principles. I research historical architectural movements and cultural symbols to understand how they convey identity and belonging.
By cropping, rotating, and overlaying photographic fragments with geometric forms, I create spatial relationships between reality and abstraction.
My latest project, "Broken," explores how migration fractures and reshapes identity through the architectural rhythm of New York City. As a Romanian-born artist in New York, I offer a perspective that bridges Romanian heritage and American innovation.
